Project Summary

The Italian State Police releases an annual calendar to honor the work and accomplishments of their service members and special forces. Our lab was commissioned to realize the video projections for their 2019 calendar launch which had a comic book theme. The event took place at the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome in the presence of the Minister of the Interior, and the Chief of Police, Franco Gabrielli.

Brief

In collaboration with Italia Eventi, we designed and produced the video projection content for the event which per the client’s request, was to resemble the comic illustrations of the published calendar. This involved working with several local comic book editors to accurately depict and honor the aesthetic world of the illustrations. These designs were used as backgrounds for key speakers as well as for promotional purposes during press conferences. In conjunction with this, there was a presentation of newly designed police uniforms and badges.

Approach

We worked closely with the Italian External Relations & Public Security Department to deliver a project that was both imaginative as well as tasteful and appropriate for a government event.

Impact

The event aired on all major Italian TV stations and media outlets to great praise. Other guests in attendance included ex Minister of Internal Affairs, Vincenzo Mollica, and some of the greatest Italian cartoon historians. The event presenter was Deputy Director TG1, Filippo Gaudenzi, and on stage, the president of UNICEF Italy, Francesco Samengo. All proceeds from the sale of the calendar went to this not for profit organization.

Capabilities

We brought the comic scenes of the calendar to life through a mixture of 3D animation and multimedia sources. We also oversaw and directed the show, choreographing and timing the way the visuals interacted with the speakers.
